Greek mythology 1/2 - fight for what you love

You know me…. I believe in signs. They are everywhere and in my case, they represent something that guides me in my life.

So I believe it was not a coincidence that recently I talked about the same subject with two very different people.

And maybe it's about time to share it with you.

When I was little, my dad gave me a book, Greek Mythology. It wasn’t my first book (I already had about 20 Disney books and surely some of my very early childhood books), but it was the book that made the strongest impact on my life.

When I didn’t know how to read, my dad sat next to my bed on the carpet and read to me until I fell asleep. I always wanted him to read this book. I loved every single story in it without knowing the true meaning of it. I liked gods and goddesses, their power and wisdom, and their impact on simple human beings (and I am sure I wasn’t the only one fascinated by it).

Today I can say why I liked it. Maybe you can guess too. But at that time, I had no idea.

This book was like my bible for many years. I learned how to read and I read it many times until it got lost when we moved out.

It's amusing how some people refer to me as a goddess today... if only they knew.

Greek mythology is incredibly rich and offers something for everyone to relate to. Whether it's the god of wine, love, war, there's a story that resonates with each of us.

Personally, the tale of Helene and Paris is one that has truly captured my heart. The story of love may not have ended well, but at least they fought for love. And despite the power and messages in all stories, fighting for love is the one that speaks to me the most.

Fighting for what you love, and it doesn't need to be a human being only, is the fight for finding your place on earth.

Love, in its many forms, always finds a way to touch your life. You can embrace it, ignore it, or fight for it. And.... it's never your choice whom or what you love. Often, it's the mysterious work of Eros, the god of love, who shoots you with his arrow, and you must navigate the journey that follows. It's quite fascinating, isn't it?

Imagine being struck by one of Eros arrow, and immediately fall in love for... leather. People might say it's weird and not how things are supposed to be, but that's just how it is.

The good thing is, you can choose what to do with that.

Are you going to put your feelings and desires aside?

They will always come back!

Ignoring your true desires is not a good idea, unless you enjoy suffering (it’s possible if you are a masochist), or want to bury your head in the sand like an ostrich.

Also not a very recommended solution.

The best option is to fight for what you love. Maybe not like Paris thought. But there are ways….

Do you have a love for leather?

You are not the only one who has been struck by this arrow. Eros certainly has a plan with this widespread influence. Maybe it is time to reveal to the world what you love and what you are willing to fight for.

Will it bring destruction to the world? Well, I don't think so.

Will your fight bring something positive to the world?

There is a big chance that at least one person will be happy... YOU.

Don’t fight with gods, they will always win!

Very interesting comparison indeed. And confirming me in my "fight" for believing in and realising my dreams, including a group meeting for wearing leather jeans, exchanging thoughts and knowledge; especially that I find courage to invite people to slip into leather.

Yet I disagree with the term "fight". Fight implies for me force. And when working on dreams, one should be calm (especially with oneself) and that contradicts the idea of fighting.

Yet one can indeed fight without actually using force?

Thank you Deni for this inspiring blog post. I for myself very often think about why I feel attracted by leather so intensively. Might be it is a mixture of personality, destiny, divine providence and coincidence (I personally think it has to do a lot with personal development). But definitely it is a passion which is worthwhile to be appreciated and to be integrated in my daily life.
