Holiday

Page 42.

That’s where my bookmark sat at the end of August. The exact same page I left it on back in June.

Some look at that and say, "What a pity." Others say, "Wonderful! It means you were actually living life, not just reading about it."

They are both right. But the truth goes deeper.

For the first time in my life, I used these two months to step fully into my own power. I designed my summer exactly as I craved. No apologies, no waiting, no compromise.

Living your life actually does come with a cost.

To get here, I had to install three non-negotiable software updates in my mind.

Update 1: Put Your Own Mask On First

In past years, I went into summer frustrated. I poured all my energy into everyone else while my own batteries were completely drained. But you can’t offer your best self to your partner, your family, or your work when you are running on pure air.

You cannot save the people around you if you refuse to give yourself oxygen first.

So this year, I practiced what I often recommend to my clients. Me first. Then others.

Before running my Power Of Leather retreat, I went to recharge batteries in the south and before diving into family holidays, I retreated into the mountains. Just me, raw nature, steep trails, and a group of grounded people with the exact same goal.

It changed everything. I returned home recharged and ready for the more challenging weeks that required my patience and presence.

The Holiday Trap: If you don't claim your own recovery, other people’s agendas will steal it from you.

Update 2: Stop Outsourcing Your Joy (And Burdening Your Partner)

Pleasure and joy are deliberate choices. They are never accidents.

No one is coming on a white horse to hand you joy, unlock your body, or make you feel alive.

There have been times when I sat in the passenger seat of my own life, waiting for someone else to make me happy. I hid behind silent, unspoken expectations, hoping a partner would read my mind and deliver my dream holiday, my dream romance, my dream summer.

Looking back, I see how heavy that expectation was for them. And how tragic it was for me.

I see this exact dynamic destroy couples every single holiday:

  • The Expectation Pressure Cooker: You spend all year exhausted, hoping two weeks in the sun will magically repair your connection, fix your intimacy, and reset your couple life.

  • The Silent Demand: You wait for your partner to initiate the romantic sunrise, set the mood, or give you permission to finally relax and feel sensual.

  • The Erotic Friction: "It’s a holiday time; we should be having mind-blowing sex every day." This invisible "should" creates instant tension, turns intimacy into a chore, and drives your partner further away.

When you wait for your partner to unlock your joy, you are outsourcing your sovereignty. You take your capacity for vitality, lock it in a drawer, hand them the key, and secretly resent them for not opening it.

How we break this in coaching: We pull you out of the waiting room. Together, we track down the precise moments you surrendered your power and bring that energy back into your body. We collapse the need for external permission, burn the unspoken expectations, and build your capacity to command your own pleasure, certainty, and fire.

Update 3: Stop Chasing the "Have It All" Fantasy

I used to carry an invisible pressure that a "perfect" holiday meant doing every single thing.

The reality? I cannot hike the peak, swim in the sea, connect deeply with family, hit the spa, train heavy in the gym, windsurf, and read five books all at the exact same time.

Real liberation came when I killed the checklist. I dropped the guilt of not "doing it all" and prioritized what actually mattered: deep relaxation and total presence.

Result? I stopped needing a holiday to recover from my holiday.

When you stop trying to consume every experience at once, you stop projecting impossible standards onto your partner and your summer. You finally gain the presence to feel the life you are actually living.

Reclaim Your Sovereign Summer

Real freedom isn't found in a perfectly curated summer or in waiting for your partner to give you the green light.

It is found in the quiet, radical decision to come home to yourself:

  • Setting boundaries without a drop of guilt.

  • Communicating your desires clearly instead of hoping someone reads your mind.

  • Choosing your own joy, even if nobody else gets it.

What’s at stake isn't just an unread book on a nightstand. It’s your life. It’s the depth of pleasure, presence, and intimacy you allow yourself to feel.

If you are done living on pause, carrying expectations that aren't yours, and waiting for permission to step into your own skin let’s talk.
