Heels

"Keep your heels, head and standards high." Coco Chanel

Speaking about leather, power and self confidence, it is impossible not to pair these elements with heels.

Heels are often uncomfortable, especially after wearing them for while yet we absolutely adore them, both men and women.

Where does this fascination for heels come from and why we like them so much?

It´s hard to imagine that first shoes with heels appeared as far back as the 12th century. Horseback riders used to wear heeled shoes to give them a good foothold in their stirrups. Then in the Middle Ages, it was the women of the upper classes who wore shoes with high heels. Yet it wasn’t until the 16th century that they became a true fashion item in the way we know them today. During this period, it was French aristocrats in particular who liked to wear shoes with a heel to demonstrate their taste in fashion. Heels were popular for both men and women and even back then, they were already considered seductive…

an association that has remained to this day.

When men stopped wearing heels?

The Age of Enlightenment (intellectual movement) changed man's view on fashion and heels. This era emphasized practicality and rationality over luxury and fashion and brought a sudden shift in men’s clothing. Their apparel was now more about matching their profession, rather than a pompous show of wealth. Men started abandoning jewelry, bright colors and heels, moving instead towards more sober clothing and by 1740, men had completely stopped wearing heels.

Males were stereotyped as practical and rational, whereas women were seen as sentimental, making them better suited for heels than men.

"The problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete.
They make one story become the only story." Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Both women and men love heels. The main reason is that heels changes our body.

When we wear high heels, our legs automatically appear longer, our butt is accentuated, and our upper body is straighter too. Also our back is in shape that people find attracting even without realizing it. What’s more, we walk differently the minute we put on a pair of high heels. We usually feel more attractive, and as a result we’re often more self-confident.

Self-confidence is powerful. Self-confidence is sexy. Self-confidence attracts people and help us to achieve our aims.

Let your heels to take you where you want to be...

"Heels transform your body language and attitude. They lift you physically and emotionally." Christian Louboutin
